Batavia Lions to hold 36th annual plant sale May 12

The Batavia Lions will be selling hanging baskets of beautiful, fresh, locally grown flowers just in time to treat Mom for Mother's Day.

The flower sale has been a Batavia tradition for 36 years, and this year's proceeds are earmarked to fund the Batavia Lions Scholarship.

It is awarded to a Batavia resident graduating senior going on to college or trade school who exemplifies unselfish service to others, particularly those in need.

Watch for the Lions hay wagons and trailers at the southeast corner of Wilson and Water streets (near Prairie Path Cycles), the southwest corner of Wilson and Prairie streets (near the 7-11 store), and the intersection of Main and Mallory streets.

Three roaming wagons will be in Batavia neighborhoods on the east and west sides.

The Batavia Lions are an all-volunteer service group of women and men who, in their spare time, serve the needs of the community by assisting with civic projects, and helping youth, the needy, the blind, and hearing-impaired.

To learn more about the Batavia Lions, visit batavialionsclub.org or follow the club on Facebook.

The club, founded in 1974, meets at 6:30 p.m. on the fourth Tuesday of each month from September through June at the Batavia Moose Lodge, 1535 S. Batavia Ave. The meetings start at 7 p.m. with a presentation, followed by a business meeting. It is open to anyone 18 or older who wants to serve the community.
