Glencoe's Aitz Hayim Honors Israel's 70th Anniversary and Projects its Future with Rabbi Donniel Hartman

Rabbi Donniel Hartman will lead a discussion that recognizes Israel's 70th anniversary and projects events that will shape its future on the evening of April 27 and the morning and afternoon of April 28 at Aitz Hayim Center for Jewish Living, 1185 Sheridan Road, Glencoe. Rabbi Hartman's Hartman Institute is committed to fulfilling the Zionist dream of making the land of Israel the model of the best of Jewish values lived in public as well as private space.

Rabbi Hartman, who teaches pluralistic Judaism at every level, to rabbis of all denominations, to scholars of all religions and to religious and secular Israelis and diaspora Jews, will share his insights and perspectives on Israel and World Jewry.

On the first evening Rabbi Hartman will look at how Israel got to where it is today and how Jews relate to Israel differently from other people. What are the rights and responsibilities we have with each other and how do we deal with fundamental differences in values and priorities?

On the next day, Rabbi Hartman will project Israel's future and the challenges it faces internally and externally.

Rabbi Hartman believes that while Jews have been struggling with these issues, establishing historic precedent formed over thousands of years, we have reached a level of historic critical significance. Rabbi Hartman brings his unique depth of insights and range of perspectives to stimulate and challenge our conventional wisdom.

On Friday evening, April 27, beginning at 6:15 pm, a Kaballah service will be held, followed by dinner and Rabbi Hartman's presentation. A $20 fee is required, along with reservations by visiting www.aitzhayim.org or by calling 847-835-3232.

The next morning, beginning at 10:00 am, a Shabbat service will be held, followed by a luncheon and Part II of Rabbi Hartman's presentation.
