Learn about orchids with Pottawatomie Garden Club

The Pottawatomie Garden Club, now celebrating its 90th year, will begin 2018 with a presentation on orchids.

Don White will speak about how to raise and care for orchids and teach people to become successful orchid growers. After the program, he will have blooming orchids available for purchase.

The meeting will be at 11:30 a.m. Monday, Feb. 26, at Baker United Methodist Church, 307 Cedar Ave. in St. Charles.

The meeting will begin with a 30-minute social time, followed by a business meeting and the presentation.

The public is welcome at the meetings which are held on the fourth Monday of the month.

On March 26, Mary Saba from the Growing Place will introduce a wide variety of must-have plants for the garden enthusiast. She will take a look at some new introductions, trends and out-of-the-ordinary plants.

Since 1928, the members of Pottawatomie Garden Club have made St. Charles a more beautiful community. Club members plant flowers on the Main Street and Illinois bridges, and around the Municipal building each spring and fall; they honor past members with our Memorial Tree Program; and they present an annual Landscape Commendation Award to businesses in St. Charles Township.

The club also awards an annual scholarship to horticulture students and provides support to gardening and environmental projects in the community. This year, the club will host its biennial garden walk on July 14, featuring six gardens and a garden boutique.
