Wrap yourself in layers of fun at Spring Valley Winter Fest

Take a break from hibernation and discover cold-weather wonders at Schaumburg Park District's Spring Valley.

Spring Valley Winter Fest is set for noon-3 p.m., Jan. 13 and 14, at the Nature Center, 1111 E. Schaumburg Road. Activities include horse-drawn wagon rides, winter-themed crafts and games and roasting marshmallows on a winter bonfire. Snowshoe walks through the prairie also will be available, weather permitting.

"Winter is a lot of fun," said Dave Brooks, manager of conservation services for Spring Valley. "It's a peaceful time of year and there's so much to appreciate."

Festivities also include animal displays featuring a wolf and coyote and a frozen play area for children. Food will be available for purchase, including chili and other warm refreshments.

"There's going to be plenty to do both indoors and outdoors," Brooks said. "After going outside, families can warm up inside with some hot cocoa."

Admission is $3 per person or $12 per family and free to children 3 and younger.
