Blackwell GEMS club talks with prosthetics experts

Blackwell's fifth- and sixth-grade GEMS (Girls in Engineering, Math and Science) Club has been working this school year on engineering model prosthetic devices for animals. Recently two representatives from Mary Free Bed Rehabilitation Hospital in Grand Rapids, Mich. spoke with the club for 45 minutes via FaceTime to share their expertise in the field of human prosthetics.

"The kids were so excited to be able to connect with experts in the field, and to have their many questions answered," said Blackwell GEMS club sponsor Tracy Fowler. "It meant so much to be able to connect real-world careers with our engineering explorations. Opportunities like these are what shape our future scientists."
