Lazarus House to celebrate 20th birthday with party
Celebrate Lazarus House's 20th birthday, when board members and staff will host a Birthday Party and Community Appreciation Event from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 9, at 214 Walnut Street in St. Charles. Join the board members and staff as they celebrate the work of Lazarus House and the many ways that you are supporting our neighbors in crisis. The shelter has been able to offer hope for the last twenty years because of the help and support of so many people in this community.
Due to your help, Lazarus House is able to provide hospitality, food, safe shelter, and education to friends in the area that are in need. You are invited to come enjoy live music, tasty food, and some family-friendly birthday activities. As an added bonus, some of the area mayors will say a few words at 2 p.m. Founder Darlene Marcusson will be here signing her book that tells the story of raising Lazarus House. The event is free.
Rocket Fizz Soda Pop & Candy Shop, 301 W. Main St., will celebrate and will honor Lazarus House's birthday with Spirit Day. Receive a flyer at the party, walk around the corner to purchase sweets and pop, show the flyer at the shop, and Rocket Fizz will donate 15 percent of your purchase back to Lazarus House.
Lazarus House is a 501(c)3 charitable organization serving people who are connected to St. Charles, Geneva, Batavia and western rural Kane County. Through its programs, Lazarus House provides a "continuum of care" to help people regain independence. The Emergency Shelter and Women & Children's Day Center provide a safe living place for people who are homeless. The Center For Transitional Living, which features 12 dormitory-style rooms and a structured program, is the next step to help people regain and maintain successful, independent living. The Outreach program provides grant-funded rental subsidies to qualifying people so they can remain in their homes. Lazarus House also serves as a soup kitchen for the food insecure from the immediate area.
Last fiscal year, Lazarus House sheltered an average of 46 people every day and subsidized an average of 32 households monthly. Across all programs, it served 312 people.
