See 'Circle of Time' documentary at Elgin Alive Series Aug. 8

On Tuesday, Aug. 8, the Elgin Community Network "Elgin Alive Series" continues with a program on the documentary film "Elgin - Circle of Time."

It will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in the Meadow Community Rooms at Gail Borden Public Library, 270 N. Grove Ave. in downtown Elgin.

Fifteen years ago, the documentary film "Circle of Time" debuted. The film chronicled the history of the Elgin National Watch Factory and the community's response after its closing.

Come see this award winning documentary film about the company that shaped Elgin for more than 100 years and the stories of the people that worked there. Share your memories and stories of the company that put Elgin on the world map.

The Elgin History Museum also will showcase some of its collection of Elgin watches and archival materials.

The Elgin Alive Series is a monthly program held at the Gail Borden Library discussing conservation topics to help Elgin become healthier and informed.

The Elgin Community Network's mission is promote a culture of civic engagement by connecting and supporting all Elginites working together with government and other neighborhoods to build sustainable, safe and livable communities.

It is open year round from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday to Saturday. Museum admission is $3 or $1 for students.

The Elgin National Watch Company room features a wall mural of the clock face that once graced the watch factory tower, original watchmaking tools from the factory, and many examples of Elgin watches, including the 13th watch produced on the famed assembly line.
