Schaumburg Park District recognized for employee health and wellness

Schaumburg Park District has received the prestigious Cigna Well-being Award for its efforts to promote employee health and wellness.

Cigna presented the award to the District June 26 during the Cigna Summit 2017 at the MidAmerica Club in Chicago's Aon Center.

"We're extremely excited to receive this award and grateful to the District's leadership for supporting our wellness programs," said Julie McArthur, human resources coordinator for the District. "Their participation resonates with staff and encourages them to be active and make healthy choices."

Employee participation in Schaumburg Park District's wellness program-dubbed Take Time for Wellness- has increased more than 30 percent since its implementation three years ago. Recent wellness strategies include a Weight Watchers at Work program resulting in a collective loss of more than 230 pounds among full and part-time staff. More than 75 employees ran in a Take Time for Wellness 5K in May at Olympic Park and a new Get Fit program is planned this fall to promote the use of fitness centers and other resources within the District.

"This award validates the effectiveness of our wellness program and will drive increased participation," McArthur said. "Schaumburg Park District is a service organization that provides wellness for the community, so it's fitting for us to keep our employees healthy as well."
