Find out about Lords Park Zoo's past and feature at Thursday program

The Elgin Area Historical Society will offer a program on "Lords Park Zoo History" from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday, May 25, at the museum, 350 Park St.

Bear, bison, elk, and even a lion are part of Elgin's oldest and largest park's history. Lords Park, donated by George and Mary Lord, has a special place in the lives and memories of many Elgin citizens. Over the last three summers, more than 30,000 people have come to enjoy the amenities of the zoo and make new memories. Join the Friends of the Lords Park Zoo as they share information about the zoo's beginnings, how it has changed, stories of how the animals came to reside there and the antics of both animal and human.

Next month, Ed Wesemann, who was at the 1933 Elgin Road Race, will speak from 2 to 3 p.m. Sunday, June 4. He will offer his memories of that day and show some of his collection of souvenirs. Light refreshments will be served. Admission is $3 or free for members.

This program will be held in the Sears Art Gallery on the Elgin Academy campus, 350 Park St. Admission is $3 or free for members. Refreshments will be served.
