Elgin man killed in Campton Hills crash

A 37-year-old Elgin man was killed Saturday morning in Campton Hills when his vehicle left the roadway, struck a ditch and flipped over, police said.

Efrain Lara was pronounced dead at St. Joseph's Hospital in Elgin at 7:24 a.m., nearly an hour after the single-vehicle crash at Route 47 and McDonald Road.

In their ongoing investigation, Campton Hills police determined that Lara was the sole occupant of a 1999 Oldsmobile Bravada that was traveling south on Route 47 before leaving the roadway at the McDonald Road intersection.

Lara was not wearing a seat belt and was thrown from the vehicle during the crash, police said. Pingree Grove paramedics took him to St. Joseph's Hospital.

Police said alcohol did not appear to be a factor in the crash.
