Bartlett duo get probation after robbing, running over drug-buying customer

A case that started out in Streamwood as a marijuana sale and turned into a robbery concluded with guilty pleas from the 20-year-old Bartlett defendants.

Kiley Johnson and Christopher L. Crane, both of the 300 block of S. Prospect Ave., pleaded guilty to robbery in exchange for 24 months of probation, including one year of intensive probation, with a TASC recommendation, court records show.

TASC stands for Treatment Alternatives for Safe Communities. It is available for defendants 18 and older charged with nonviolent offenses who require treatment for substance abuse. Intensive probation requires defendants to comply with conditions that might include curfew, education requirement, community service or substance abuse treatment.

Each defendant was also fined $654.

According to police, Crane and Johnson on Aug. 29 drove to the home of a man who had arranged with Crane to buy marijuana for $150. After the man handed Crane the money through the open car window, Crane told Johnson to floor the gas pedal, police said.

After the victim grabbed the door frame, Johnson swerved to dislodge him and Crane punched him, police said.

According to the police report, a rear tire rolled over the victim's midsection. He was taken to St. Alexius Medical Center in Hoffman Estates.
