Former dishwasher charged in West Dundee golf course theft

A former dishwasher at Randall Oaks Golf Club in West Dundee has been charged with stealing nearly $600 from a safe after an event this month.

Kristopher W. Hein, 26, of the 10300 block of Sawgrass Lane, Huntley, turned himself into West Dundee police this week after a warrant was issued for felony theft from a government-supported entity, according to police and Kane County court records. The club is operated by the Dundee Township Park District.

West Dundee Police Sgt. Jason Antonacci said golf club officials began an investigation Dec. 8 after counting money from an event the previous night and discovering the tally was $588 short. Authorities believe Hein, who has been fired and banned from the property, took money from a small safe in the kitchen area.

A warrant was issued for Hein this week, he surrendered to police and posted bond.

A message left for the golf club's general manager seeking information about the Dec. 7 theft and the subsequent investigation was not returned.

Hein is next due in court Jan. 10. It was not immediately clear if he is represented by a defense attorney. If convicted, he faces a punishment ranging from probation to up to seven years in prison.

He does not have any previous criminal charges in Kane County, but was free on bond from an October 2015 case out of Lake in the Hills in McHenry County on felony charges he solicited a minor over the internet, records show. He is next due in court Jan. 5 in Woodstock in that case.
