Elgin man accused of attempting to sexually assault teen

Prosecutors on Thursday announced an indictment against a 67-year-old Elgin man charged with attempting to sexually assault a teenage girl, after which authorities say he picked up a loaded firearm and held police at bay for three hours.

Jon Fischer, who is being held at Cook County jail on $3 million bail, did not attend his hearing because he is being treated for "serious health issues," said Cook County assistant state's attorney Alyssa Grissom.

He also faces charges of aggravated domestic battery and unlawful restraint.

Prosecutors say Fischer attempted to bind the girl's hands and sexually assault her. During the ensuing struggle, prosecutors said, the girl distracted Fischer by biting him and then dialed 911 on her cellphone.
