Tuesday nights are cruise nights at Algonquin Commons

Throughout the spring and summer months, Algonquin Commons will hold classic cruise nights from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesdays.

The cruise nights begin next week on Tuesday, May 15, and run through Sept. 11. They will take place in the outdoor shopping center's eastern parking lot.

The cruise nights are open to all makes of classic and collectible automobiles and trucks. Each week there will be a different theme, drawing in different cars and different crowds.

The top three entries each week will win prizes. There also will be raffle prize giveaways, and cruising music and entertainment from 101.5 radio.

The theme for the first week is 1950s night, where you will get a chance to see some of the sweetest cars from days gone by.

Other themes for the event will include Corvette Night May 22, Mustang Night May 29, Camaro Night June 5, Street Rod Night June 12, Mopar Night June 19 and 1960s night June 23.

To celebrate America's birthday, July 3 will be red, white and blue night.

The cruise nights will continue July 10 with Convertible Night, July 17 with 1970s night, July 24 with Truck Night and July 31 with Ford Night.

In conjunction with National Night Out, old police cars will be featured Aug. 7.

Heavy Chevy Night is Aug. 14 and Luxury Car Night will be Aug. 21. You will get to see old Buick, Pontiac and Oldsmobile vehicles Aug. 28. Modern Muscle cars will make an appearance Sept. 4.

To close out the classic cruise nights, there will be a special presentation of military and first responder vehicles Sept. 11.

While the weather can be iffy at this time of year, organizers want as many of the cruise nights as possible to take place. If the hour-by-hour chance of rain for the scheduled dates is 35 percent or lower at 5 p.m., the show will go on.
