Meeting to review extension of Great Western Trail

Trail extension meeting:

A meeting next month will allow residents to learn more about a plan to extend the Great Western Trail from Sassafras Drive in West Chicago to the Illinois Prairie Path-Elgin Branch. DuPage County officials say the extension will allow nearby neighborhoods west of the Illinois Prairie Path-Elgin Branch access to the county trail system. The project won't require right-of-way acquisition. The informational meeting about the project will be held 4 to 7 p.m. March 1 at the West Chicago Public Library, 118 W. Washington St. County representatives will be available to answer questions, and exhibits will be available for the public to review.

Roselle police academy:

The Roselle Police Department is going to be starting its Citizen Police Academy on March 16. The classes are free from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. on Thursdays over a 11-week period. The academy is designed to give participants an understanding of police procedures and the challenges officers face. Applicants must be at least 18, live or work in Roselle and will be subject to a background check. Applications are available at roselle.il.us. Email Sgt. Tim Cook at tcook@roselle.il.us or call (630) 671-4082.

Watershed plan feedback:

Residents have until March 9 to provide feedback on the draft St. Joseph Creek Water Quality Watershed-Based Plan. The plan outlines projects and programs that may improve water quality throughout the St. Joseph Creek Watershed, which includes portions of Darien, Westmont, Downers Grove and Lisle, as well as unincorporated DuPage County. Once both DuPage County and the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency approve the draft plan, the county, municipalities and other private and public stakeholders may apply for IEPA grant funding to carry out initiatives identified in the plan. The county will hold a public meeting from noon to 1 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 23, to discuss the draft watershed plan. The meeting will be held in Room 3500B in the county administration building, 421 N. County Farm Road, Wheaton. The draft watershed plan is available online at dupageco.org/EDP/Stormwater_Management/6597/. Comments on the draft watershed plan may be submitted via email to Water.Quality@dupageco.org or by mail to Mary Beth Falsey, c/o Department of Stormwater Management, 421 North County Farm Road, Wheaton, IL 60187.
