MS musical fundraiser coming Feb. 26 to Palatine
Singer/entertainer Melissa Barber will perform a cabaret style charity concert Sunday, Feb. 26, at Durty Nellie's Back Room in Palatine to raise money to fight multiple sclerosis.
The concert is being sponsored by Bartlett-based Crop for a Cause Foundation, a volunteer group known for hosting scrapbooking/craft-related events, along with having the Northwest suburb's top fundraising Walk MS team.
This event is unlike any they have done before, a fun-filled musical night for the almost 11-year-old foundation.
Barber's Order Up! is an interactive concert for audiences with mixed tastes in music. The audience gets in on the act, ordering favorite styles of music from menus. Barber, an alum of the popular "Tony n' Tina's Wedding," incorporates the musical orders (and sometimes the audience members themselves) into her act. From rock to jazz and country to Broadway, there's a nonstop energy in this show.
Since 1999, Barber has been raising money for The National MS Society doing concerts, selling CDs and producing charity events to benefit her mother, uncle, Laura Machonis (friend and founder of Crop for a Cause) and others who struggle daily with the disease.
Joining Barber is pianist Andrew Blendermann of Blenderful Music.
Admission is $25, plus a $2 handling fee. Reservations are required. Tickets should be ordered online at www.cropforacause.com/concert. The event starts at 5 p.m. and the concert is at 7 p.m. People can purchase food and drinks, buy CDs and make bids in the silent auction.
