St. Charles library to offer free genealogy workshops

After gardening, genealogy is currently the second most popular hobby in the United States. During the month of February, the St. Charles Public Library, 1 S. Sixth Ave., is offering three free genealogy workshops for beginners or the advanced researcher.

Genealogy speaker and author Steve Szabados presents "Finding Your Roots in Naturalization Records" at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 1. Szabados will review traditional and online sources to find your immigrant ancestors' naturalization papers to see the beginning of your roots in America.

"Emigration and Immigration" will be the topic at 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 16. Genealogist Jacquie Schattner will guide attendees through the process of finding ones ancestor's emigration from their origin and immigration to the United States.

An "Ancestry.com Primer" will be offered at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 28. Genealogist Caron Primas-Brennan will review the Ancestry.com site, including the Ancestry Trees, discuss what it offers beginners as well as more advanced genealogy researchers, and compare what is available through the free site and the paid subscription.

Registration for all workshops is required. For more information or to register, visit www.stcharleslibrary.org or call (630) 584-0076.
