Police: Buffalo Grove man made up abduction to cover for crash

Authorities have charged a 21-year-old Buffalo Grove man with felony disorderly conduct after they say he told police a false story about being abducted to mask his involvement in a hit-and-run accident.

Jack Dini, of the 0-100 block of Villa Verde Drive, also faces a charge of leaving the scene of a property damage accident stemming from the crash Friday night in Palatine.

According to police, officers responded to a report of a 2003 Honda CR-V leaving the roadway and striking a tree on the 100 block of South Brockway about 10:01 p.m. Jan. 20. The vehicle's driver was not on the scene when officers arrived, and a search of the area using a police dog came up empty.

During the investigation, a police dispatcher received a 9-1-1 call from Dini, the registered owner of the vehicle, reporting that he had been abducted and beaten by masked men in downtown Palatine before being pushed out of his vehicle and fleeing, police said.

But while discussing the events at Palatine police headquarters later, Dini reportedly told officers he'd made up the earlier story, according to police.

Dini's bail was set at $5,000 on Jan. 21. His next court date is at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 24, at the Cook County courthouse in Rolling Meadows.
