See 'Mamie Eisenhower: The Hostess in Chief' Dec. 14

This year marked the 100th anniversary of the marriage of Mamie Doud to Dwight D. Eisenhower.

At 1 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 14, historian and actress Ellie Carlson will present "Mamie Eisenhower: The Hostess in Chief," the charming story of America's beloved First Lady from 1953 to 1961, at the St. Charles Public Library, 1 S. Sixth Ave.

Visit with Mamie as she related her life as Ike's wife, the nation's first lady and "just a good friend" which is how she most wanted to be remembered.

Learn from Mamie about living in Panama and the Philippines between the world wars and about her loving relationship with Ike which weathered horrible rumors and long separations. Mamie didn't really cook, but she did make amazing fudge which Carlson will also make and bring to the event.

Carlson has been presenting costumed interpretations, and historical lectures in the Chicago area for more than 10 years. Trained as a museum curator, she earned her master's of historical administration and museum studies from the University of Kansas, and has 30 years of experience in small to mid-size museums.
