Man dead, suspect in custody after Elgin shooting

A man is dead and a second person is in custody in connection with a fatal shooting early yesterday in Elgin, police said. Police said officers responding to reports of a disturbance at 4:15 a.m. in the 800 block of Morgan Street found a gunshot victim. He was taken to Presence St. Joseph Hospital in Elgin and pronounced dead. Full story.

Two killed in one-vehicle crash in South Elgin

Two men were killed and a third man injured early yesterday when the car they were in veered off a South Elgin road, struck two trees and split in two, authorities said. The crash occurred about 5:45 a.m. along northbound Route 31 near Scott Avenue, authorities said. The two men killed, who have not been identified, were pronounced dead at the scene, according to the South Elgin Fire District. Full story.
