Two killed in one-vehicle crash in South Elgin

Two men were killed and a third man injured early Sunday when the car they were in veered off a South Elgin road, struck two trees and split in two, authorities said.

The crash occurred about 5:45 a.m. along northbound Route 31 near Scott Avenue, authorities said. The two men killed, who have not been identified, were pronounced dead at the scene, according to the South Elgin Fire District.

The third man was taken to Presence St. Joseph Hospital in Elgin, authorities said.

The South Elgin Police Department and the Kane County Accident Recreation Task Force are investigating the crash.

Route 31 was closed from McLean Boulevard to Hancock Avenue until between 8:30 and 9 a.m., fire officials said.
