Man dead, suspect in custody after Elgin shooting

A man is dead and a second person is in custody in connection with a fatal shooting early Sunday morning in Elgin, police said.

Police said officers responding to reports of a disturbance at 4:15 a.m. in the 800 block of Morgan Street found a gunshot victim. He was taken to Presence St. Joseph Hospital in Elgin and pronounced dead, police said.

The victim's identity is not being released at this time pending family notification, police said. The Kane County Coroner was scheduled to conduct an autopsy later Sunday to determine the official cause of death.

Elgin police said a suspect is in custody and the department's Major Investigations Division is continuing to investigate.
