Police: Elgin man charged after pellet gun threat

A 20-year-old Elgin man faces up to a year in jail - and perhaps a return trip to prison - after police say he threatened another man with what appeared to be a handgun last Friday.

Tomichael L. Maye Jr., of the 300 block of South Belmont Avenue, is charged with aggravated assault stemming from the Nov. 4 altercation in Bartlett, police said.

According to Bartlett police, officers were called to the 200 block of South Main Street at 9:50 p.m. Friday, after a witness reported a man pulled out what appeared to be a handgun, began waving it, and then pointed it in the direction of the witness. Police later arrested Maye after finding a pellet gun that resembled a realistic handgun in a flower bed near the scene.

Maye was released on a $1,500 Individual Bond with a Dec. 15 court date, but then transported to the DuPage County Jail to be held on the warrant issued by the Illinois Department of Corrections for parole violation. Maye was paroled Oct. 16 after serving about five months in prison for a residential burglary conviction.
