Stars and Cars raises more than $137,000 for Northern Illinois Food Bank

GENEVA, Ill., October 26, 2016 - Supporters of Northern Illinois Food Bank raised more than $137,000, totaling more than $1 million in food to benefit the organization's mission of solving hunger across Northern Illinois at its fourth annual Stars and Cars event on October 5 at Steve Foley Motors of Northbrook - Cadillac, Rolls-Royce, Bentley.

Event co-chairs Brian McCaskey, Vice President of the Chicago Bears and Steve Foley Jr. of Steve Foley Motors of Northbrook drew more than 175 guests to the event. Guests took part in a silent auction and enjoyed tastings from top restaurants including Copper Fiddle Distillery, Fine's Restaurant, Froggy's, Heinen's Grocery Store, Heller Catering, Morton's Steakhouse, Real Urban Barbecue, The Chocolate Sanctuary, The Happ Inn Bar & Grill, Tito's Handmade Vodka, Sunset Foods, Westwood Bistro, Wildfire Restaurant and Vin Chicago.

More than a dozen former Chicago Bears, Chicago Bulls and other NBA athletes attended the event as special guests, including Brian Baschnagel, Kenny Battle, Alex Brown, Charlie Brown, Emmette Bryant, Brian Glasgow, Robbie Gould, Major Hazelton, Bruce Herron, Israel Idonije, Patrick Mannelly, Ray McElroy, Ahmad Merritt, Emery Moorehead, Jim Morrissey, Jim Osborne, Mike Richardson, Jim Thornton, Nathan Vasher and Tom Waddle.

"We are grateful for the continued support of everyone who attended Stars and Cars and helped make the event a success again this year," said Julie Yurko, President and CEO, Northern Illinois Food Bank. "This event is a great example of how when a community comes together, we can truly help ensure no one goes hungry in Northern Illinois."

Northern Illinois Food Bank is a nonprofit organization that provides food assistance to more than 71,500 neighbors each week through a network of 800 food pantries and feeding programs. Last year, the Food Bank distributed 62.5 million meals to hungry neighbors across 13 counties of Northern Illinois.
