Crystal Lake man, 35, identified as motorcyclist killed in Algonquin crash

A 35-year-old Crystal Lake man was identified Sunday as the motorcyclist killed in a five-vehicle crash Saturday in Algonquin.

Alex J. Misurelli was pronounced dead about 6:02 p.m. at the scene of the crash involving three motorcycles, an SUV and a car on the Route 31 western bypass north of Algonquin Road, according to McHenry County Coroner Anne Majewski.

The motorcycles were traveling north on Route 31 about 5:30 p.m. when they crossed the raised median into oncoming traffic and collided with two southbound vehicles, police said.

Misurelli was driving one of the motorcycles, Majewski said. The coroner's office is expected to perform an autopsy Monday.

A second motorcyclist, whose condition is unknown, was taken to a hospital and later flown to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, officials said. A third motorcyclist and the driver of a car also were taken hospitals.

The bypass was closed for several hours after the crash. Algonquin police and the Kane County Accident Reconstruction Team are investigating.
