Annual Palatine Food Drive is underway

Lavelle Law Charities' annual Palatine Food Drive is now underway with food collection boxes set up at more than 20 locations throughout town.

The drive, which benefits the Palatine Township Food Pantry, will run through Thursday, Nov. 17.

"This is the 13th year that Lavelle Law Charities has sponsored this communitywide effort to fight hunger in our immediate area," said food drive coordinator Jackie Lindert. "People often underestimate the number of families right here in Palatine that are in danger of being hungry on a daily basis."

Sponsoring this year's drive are Centrella Foods and Rooney Landscaping.

The Palatine Food Drive is designed to stock the Palatine Township Food Pantry shelves for the holiday season to assist individuals and families in need.

"Due to the generosity of Palatine residents and businesses, we have often met the pantry needs for the holidays and for months beyond," said Lindert. "We hope our community rises to the occasion again this year."

Suggested items include all nonperishable foods such as cereal, pasta, soups, canned fruits and vegetables, flour, sugar, coffee, as well as items specific to families with young children such as diapers and formula.

Lindert notes that much of the success of the Palatine Food Drive comes from the large number of local institutions that welcome the donation boxes for the six-week drive. Many partner with Lavelle Law Charities every year, building familiarity for residents regarding donation opportunities.

For 2016, donations sites include: Lavelle Law, 501 W. Colfax Ave.; ACE Hardware, 239 E. Northwest Hwy.; Baxter and Beasley, 313 W. Colfax Ave.; Birchwood Recreation Center, 435 W.
