Nypro expands in Gurnee

Nypro, which makes equipment for the health care industry, will break ground next week to nearly double its existing facility in Gurnee and add up to 60 more jobs, the company said Tuesday.

The company will add 78,154 square feet to its existing facility, bringing the total to 169,154 square feet at 955 Tri-State Parkway in Lake County.

With this expansion Nypro said it will be able to better serve its Chicago area and global clients with its manufacturing and supply chain products and solutions. The company, owned by St. Petersburg, Florida-based Jabil Co. with offices in Downers Grove, makes EPI-pens, inhalers, diabetes care products, as well as kidney dialysis machines and scanners.

In 1955, Fred Kirk, the owner of Kirk Molding in Clinton, Massachusetts, partnered with Nick Stadtherr to create a new company called Nylon Products Inc., which was dedicated to molding nylon, a new material at that time. As the company became involved with hundreds of other plastic materials, the company name was condensed to Nypro Inc. in 1977. The company then merged with Jabil in 2013. Nypro now has 23 facilities in 11 countries and more than 20,000 employees worldwide, according to the company.

In February, Nypro acquired Plasticos Castella, a European packaging and container injection molder for the food and consumer packaged goods products sectors. This included engineering facilities in Spain and Hungary as well as customers in the food, beverage and consumer packaging industry.
