Give the gift of reading! Become a literacy volunteer

Literacy Volunteers Fox Valley is seeking volunteers to help Tri-City adults learn English.

Currently, 20 adults are waiting to learn. They are originally from Afghanistan, Cambodia, China, Greece, India, Iran, Iraq and Mexico.

The program provides material and training so that anyone can be a tutor. The next tutor training workshop will be held from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays, Oct. 3-12, at the St. Charles Public Library, 1 S. Sixth Ave.

Volunteers say that there are benefits to being a tutor.

You get to learn about other cultures, look at the world from a different point of view, and literally change a life.

Residents who are interested in registering for tutor training can visit www.lvfv.org or call/text Peg Coker at (630) 584-4428.
