Community groups partner to offer Wellness Works 2016 for Employers

AURORA, Ill. - Learn how to not only keep employees - but keep them happier and healthier - at the Healthy Living Council of Greater Aurora's Wellness Works conference for employers on Friday, Sept. 16.

From 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Prisco Center in Aurora, experts will share key information in physical health, emotional and behavioral health, financial stability, benefits and services and more. Topics will be applicable to small businesses, service organizations and large employers, and presented in panel discussions and keynote addresses.

"Wellness does not have just one meaning, but encompasses multiple factors that work together to help us gain overall health in our lives," said Laura Barr, a Nutrition and Wellness Educator for University of Illinois Extension, one of the event partners. "It is important to promote a culture of health in the workplace. Workplace wellness has been shown to profit both employees and employers."

Some benefits include lower costs associated with insurance, absenteeism, and healthcare, along with improved health, morale and productivity, explained Barr.

Speakers and panelists represent: American Heart Association, Arthur J. Gallagher & Co., Buchar Family Chiropractic, ComPsych, Interactive Health, Mesirow Financial and Rush-Copley Medical Center.

Among the more than a dozen exhibitors providing information on employee health issues will be the City of Aurora, Fox Valley Park District, Kane County Health Department, Rush-Copley Healthplex, Illinois Public Health Institute, and University of Illinois Extension.

This program is sponsored by the Healthy Living Council of Greater Aurora, in collaboration with the Aurora Regional Chamber of Commerce and the Fox Valley Park District, and funded by the Making Kane County Fit for Kids Program.
