Schaumburg, Elk Grove police seek same suspect

Elk Grove Village and Schaumburg police are seeking the public's help in identifying a man they suspect of an attempted sexual assault and several incidents of indecent exposure in the former village and a couple of suspicious person complaints in the latter.

Surveillance video captured images of the suspect in the attempted sexual assault at about 8 a.m. Dec. 24, 2014, in a business near Higgins Road and Joey Drive in Elk Grove Village. Police said the man entered the business and attacked an adult male employee who was able to fight him off.

In that crime, the offender was described as a black male, 6 feet tall, approximately 220 pounds, in his late 20s or early 30s with dark hair and a dark complexion. He was last seen wearing a blue or black hooded sweatshirt and dark pants.

Though clothing descriptions vary, similarities in physical description have led police to believe the same man is their suspect in several much more recent crimes and complaints.

Elk Grove Village police received a complaint of indecent exposure by a man standing outside the window of a business on the 2400 block of Pan Am Boulevard at about 10:25 a.m. on June 5, 2016. Another such complaint occurred at 2 p.m. July 24 inside a business on the 900 block of Criss Circle. On this occasion, the suspect was wearing a T-shirt and red boxer shorts.

Elk Grove Village Deputy Police Chief Michael Gaspari said it's unknown whether the victims in these crimes were targeted, but they were all adult males.

Schaumburg police issued a community alert Wednesday in response to two recent suspicious person complaints they also believe to be the same man.

At approximately 5:50 a.m. on June 5, the man was reported entering a business in the 800 block of Morse Avenue in Schaumburg.

On July 17 at about 5:15 a.m., the man was seen attempting to gain entry to a townhouse in the 1100 block of Regency Court in Schaumburg. The suspect was described as wearing no shirt, camouflage shorts and dark shoes or boots.

Anyone who recognizes the suspect or has information or surveillance video relevant to any of these complaints is asked to call either Elk Grove Village Detective Steve Rohman at (847) 357-4167 or Schaumburg Detective Rob Newenham at (847) 882-3586.
