GreenFields certified as a Conservation @ Work site

"GreenFields of Geneva has joined the ranks of places like the Shedd Aquarium, Brookfield Zoo and Fermilab," said Dan Lobbes, director of land protection and Kane County program director of the Conservation Foundation. On Friday, July 22, Lobbes certified GreenFields as a Conservation @ Work site. Part of the Conservation Foundation's Conservation @ Home Program this initiative "encourages and recognizes property owners for using native landscaping and doing environmentally friendly things on their property," said Lobbes.

The Conservation Foundation is a nonprofit organization with a "mission to preserve and restore open space and natural lands, protect rivers and watersheds and promote stewardship of our environment in DuPage, Kane, Kendall, and Will counties."

"More recently, we've hired a naturalist and an arborist to maintain our natural areas," said Holbrook. "We've done quite a bit of work this year to bring our natural areas to a higher level."

GreenFields was presented with a burr oak seedling and a sign reading, "This property is recognized for its environmentally friendly and sustainable landscape. Native plants combined with other water conservation practices, reduce stormwater runoff and lower maintenance costs as well as improve habitat for wildlife."
