Firefighters extricate man in one-vehicle crash on Route 53

Elk Grove and Schaumburg firefighters extricated a man from a vehicle Sunday morning, following a one-car crash on southbound Interstate 290/Route 53 near Elk Grove Village.

Elk Grove firefighters said the man, who has not been identified, was taken to Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove with what appeared to be serious injuries.

He was conscious at the time.

Firefighters said the accident occurred shortly before 8 a.m. under the bridge at Biesterfield Road on the right side of the road.

According to Illinois State Police, the white 2007 Chevy Cruze struck a structure connected with the bridge.

Firefighters said they stabilized the car, which was on an incline, so it wouldn't roll, before extricating the man with the Hurst Jaws of Life rescue system.

State police said tickets have not been issued.
