Local golfers raise more than $80,000 for American Cancer Society

Lake Forest's Conway Farms Golf Club again hosted the William T. White Jr. Memorial Golf Tournament in support of the American Cancer Society. This year's event was sold out with 128 participants.

More than $80,000 was raised through direct donations, course fees and exclusive silent auction packages.

"All of us have been touched by cancer" stated American Cancer Society Northwest Board Member and Northwest Group Manager for Wintrust Commercial Banking Russ Larsen. "Some have personally battled it while others walk alongside a family member, a friend, a colleague, who is facing it. I was thrilled to be able to contribute to our most financially successful golf outing yet. Wintrust is all about investing in, and giving back to, the communities and people we serve. We are proud to support such a critical cause."

In 1981, William T. White, Jr. initiated a golf tournament to bring friends and interested people from the community together to raise funds to support the American Cancer Society. In recognition of his generosity, the tournament is now named in his honor after his death from leukemia in 1993. Now his son, William T. White, III, serves as the event's co-chair.

Funds raised from the event go to cancer research, patient support, prevention information and education, and detection and treatment.

The success of this event could not be possible without individual and corporate sponsors. For more information about those sponsors, please visit www.acswtwgolf.org.
