Glenview Resident Appointed General Counsel of Chicago Public Media

Chicago Public Media announces that Cynthia Photos Abbott of Glenview, Ill. will join the organization as Vice President and General Counsel. Ms. Abbott brings to the newly-created position nearly 30 years of legal experience in a broad range of areas including intellectual property, contracts, dispute resolution and external and internal legal management.

"Cindy is uniquely qualified not only to establish this new internal resource but equally to provide superb expertise in legal matters and strategic execution," said Goli Sheikholeslami, President and Chief Executive Officer of Chicago Public Media. "In addition to being an experienced in-house counsel, Cindy is also committed to the mission of Chicago Public Media and WBEZ. She is exceptionally prepared to take on this role, and is well-positioned to provide an immediate impact as we grow in the midst of a rapidly changing digital and media landscape."

Abbott joins Chicago Public Media from Motorola Mobility, LLC, where she has worked for more than 18 years, most recently in the position of Senior Legal Director, advising business leaders on a full range of legal issues, and before that as Senior Litigation Counsel, responsible for patent and commercial litigation among other duties. She began her career at Katten Muchin & Rosenman and became a partner in the firms' litigation practice.

Abbott earned her bachelor's degree from the School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C., and her J.D. from Northwestern Pritzker School of Law. She serves on the Board of Directors for the Chicago Bar Foundation and co-chairs the In-House Counsel Committee of the Women's Coalition of Initiatives in Law. She is a five-time recipient of the Top Litigation Counsel Award from First Chair for excellence in litigation management and has been honored by the Chicago Law Bulletin as one of the city's "Women Making an Impact" for her commitment and dedication to improving the legal profession.
