Elgin Beverage Co. priming for move to Bartlett

Elgin Beverage Co. is planning a move to an 80,000-square-foot Bartlett warehouse the company hopes to build in the Blue Heron Business Park.

The beverage distribution company has been at 1685 Fleetwood Drive in Elgin since 1973, and the company has been distributing beverages since 1927.

Plans for the move were discussed by village board members during a May 17 committee of the whole meeting. The Bartlett plan commission will consider site plans for the 6.71 acre lot Thursday night.

Once the plans are approved, Elgin Beverage can begin applying for building permits, said Bartlett Community Development Director Community Development Director Jim Plonczynski.

The chief executive officer of Elgin Beverage could not be reached for comment.

FCL Builders is developing the warehouse that is expected to be more than double the size of the company's current warehouse, which is 30,593 square feet, according to signs outside of the building. One of the warehouse entrances will be off Route 25.

Bartlett Village President Kevin Wallace said the village has seen a lot of new manufacturing construction recently.

“We've gotten a good reputation for easy access and competent people to work with to get the project done quickly,” Wallace said.

Elgin Beverage works with more than 16 suppliers of alcoholic and nonalcoholic beverages. The suppliers bring their products, including cans, bottles and kegs to their warehouse, and Elgin Beverage distributes them to stores, restaurants and bars.

The company's distribution area reaches five counties and one of its biggest suppliers is Corona.
