Maryville Academy to stop housing youths

After 132 years, Maryville Academy will no longer serve as a home for youths, in the face of a looming state funding cut in residential and institutional aid, the Des Plaines-based child care organization said Tuesday. The decision affects 29 teen boys living at Maryville's campus in Des Plaines, 31 teen girls living at residential treatment homes in Bartlett, and eight teen girls at a shelter in Chicago. Thunderstorm rips off apartment building roof

Severe storms that moved through the suburbs Tuesday afternoon caused a roof to be torn off an apartment building near Willowbrook, witnesses and authorities said. "I heard this gust of wind and it took off the top of the roof, and then I saw boards flying and debris and wood flying all over the place," said Demarcus Linzy, who was home at the time of the storm. "It was really, really loud. Like a lighting strike." Full story.

Schaumburg police ask for help finding sex offender

Schaumburg police have asked the public to be on the lookout for a man who committed a sexual assault over the weekend. Authorities say the man broke into a woman's residence on the 2700 block of Odlum Drive about 3:25 a.m. on Sunday. Full story.
