Home sales see big increases around suburbs

Fox Lake, Rolling Meadows and Glen Ellyn are among the local suburbs that have had seen double- and triple-digit percentage increases in home sales during the first quarter, according to Downers Grove-based Mainstreet Organization of Realtors.

Mainstreet, which based its study on Multiple Listing Services data, said Fox Lake had 112.5 percent growth, ahead of Rolling Meadows at 52.2 percent and Glen Ellyn at 49.3 percent.

Other towns also saw more homes sold. Darien increased 116.7 percent, while Glenwood was up at 93.8 percent, Winthrop Harbor up at 84.6 percent and Broadview up at 63.2 percent.

The first quarter also marked the fifth consecutive quarter of growth in the number of houses sold and in sale prices, Mainstreet said.

The number of single-family detached houses sold was 7,045 in the association's region, which includes about 200 communities in DuPage, Lake and suburban Cook counties. This was a 5.5 percent increase over the past quarter. First quarter increases also were logged in the average sale price of 5.9 percent, to $254,813, and the median sale price up 8.7 percent, to $212,000, according to the association's release.
