Shaving heads to fight cancer in Mt. Prospect, Palatine

If you've seen more shaved heads that usual lately, there's a good reason for it: It's the time of year volunteers lose their locks to raise money for the St. Baldrick's Foundation, which fights childhood cancer.

Mount Prospect police and firefighters got in on the fundraising action Saturday at BlackFinn Ameripub at Randhurst Village, with help from the stylists at Amethyst Skye Salon. It was the group's fourth annual event.

Durty Nellie's, 180 N. Smith St., Palatine, will be aiming to raise $25,000 at its annual St. Baldrick's event from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday. That event will include live music by Jason Picchiotti & Friends, Bel-Air & The Burbs and Nothing Yet.
