Health care firm to move from Schaumburg to Elgin

Healthcare Financial Resources, or HFRI LLC, which collects insurance bills for hospital systems, is moving about 200 workers from its Schaumburg headquarters to the Westfield Business Park in Elgin starting next month.

The company signed an 11-year lease for 31,505 square feet at 2500 Westfield Drive in Elgin because it provides room for growth. And the company plans to boost its workforce by 50 percent over the next 18 months, said President and CEO Jerry Connelly.

"There was no question of renewing our lease in Schaumburg because we were stuffed to the gills," Connelly said. "So we had to find a larger space."

He started a search for a new headquarters in mid-2015 and met with officials from Chicago and also considered locations in Schaumburg and elsewhere, he said.

The office in Elgin won for a variety of reasons, including that it offers double the space than what it has in Schaumburg now. It was a "matter of economics and the commute for our employees," he said.

Connelly said he came here from Philips Healthcare in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, in 2014, and was named CEO in early 2015. HFRI works with various hospital systems nationwide, including academic medical centers, regional health care systems and community hospitals, by collecting what is owed to them from insurance companies.

The company also has about 15 workers in Scottsdale, Arizona, and will remain in that location.

"We'll be doing the move here in phases and should complete it this fall," he said.
