Elgin man going to prison for beating girlfriend

A 69-year-old Elgin man was found to be guilty of severely beating his girlfriend and will face a six to 30 years prison, officials said Wednesday. According to a release by the Kane County state's attorney's office, James E. Bell, of the 400 block of South Belmont Street in Elgin, flung the victim into a dishwasher, causing three pelvic fractures. Full story.

Waukegan police seek man who robbed bank

Waukegan police are seeking the public's help to track down a man who robbed Waukegan bank. According to a news release, the man robbed the BMO Harris Bank at 3113 N. Lewis Ave. without showing or mentioning a weapon. Full story.

Missing Beach Park woman found

A 28-year-old Beach Park woman who was reported missing Tuesday was found unconscious but breathing in Kenosha, Wisconsin, on Wednesday afternoon, by an acquaintance who happened to be driving by. "It was very lucky," Lake County sheriff's spokesman Chris Covelli said. Full story.

All service from Chicago to Indiana and back on the Metra South Shore line was halted due to damage from yesterday's blizzard, the Northern Indiana Transportation Commuter District announced on its website early this morning. DNA evidence leads to arrest in Des Plaines-area rapes

A 30-year-old man whose DNA matches evidence from two previously unsolved sexual assaults in the Des Plaines area was arrested Sunday, officials said Wednesday. According to a news release from the Cook County sheriff's office, LaMarcus Anderson, who lives on the 8800 block of Carleah Street, was charged with two counts of criminal sexual assault from attacks on July 3, 2015, and Nov. 3, 2015. Ex-Wheaton College professor speaking at 'Know Your Muslim Neighbor'

DuPage United is hosting an event called "We the People: Know Your Muslim Neighbor" to give residents of different races and religions to create a counternarrative to anti-Muslim rhetoric. While the event, which will be held Sunday, is not open to the public, organizers hope it will inspire other groups to consider building relationships with their Muslim neighbors to get beyond stereotypes and misinformation.
