60 mph gusts don't deter St. Charles golfer

You can't beat 60 degrees in February.

Except when the wind gusts match the air temperature.

The National Weather Service Friday issued a high wind warning, with winds of 30 to 40 mph and gusts to 60 mph through 6 p.m.

None of that stopped James Smith of St. Charles. He took advantage of the unseasonably warm weather to get in a round of golf at St. Andrews Golf and Country Club in West Chicago.

While the temperature was in the upper 50s at the time, the wind was howling.

"It's crazy," said Smith, who was playing for the first time since November. "I'm just looking to get some swings in and hope the wind is better tomorrow."

He should get his wish. According to AccuWeather, Saturday will be sunny and mild with a high of 54 degrees and not nearly as windy.

Tee times - from $21 to $30 - are available.
