Van smashes into Roselle pizzeria, injures four

A van left Irving Park Road in Roselle on Wednesday afternoon and drove into a pizzeria, injuring the driver and three others. "He came off Irving Park Road, through the intersection, down into the parking lot, across the parking lot and into the building," said Roselle Fire Shift Cmdr. Marcus Auble. Full story.

Wheeling trustees cite concerns with senior housing proposal

Despite Wheeling trustees' initial concerns with a newly proposed senior housing development on Dundee Road, Village President Dean Argiris says it is something the village needs and he hopes developers will work on a modified plan that addresses the issues raised. Argiris and Trustee Ken Brady were the only two to give an unofficial vote of approval when the board held a preliminary discussion on the proposal Tuesday. Initial plans from Perlmark Housing Group call for a 162-unit, two-building development named Woods of Wheeling at 911 W. Dundee Road. Full story.

Special Olympians seek medals in skating

Special Olympians with a need for speed or a taste for grace will be wrapping up their races and performances today in a statewide skating competition in Romeoville. From the Northwest and West suburbs, 21 skaters with intellectual or developmental disabilities are hoping to medal in events including races of 111, 333, 500 or 777 meters and figure skating competitions at several levels. Vernon Hills police officer dies

A decorated Vernon Hills police officer succumbed to esophageal cancer Wednesday. Officer Andy Rheintgen had been with the department for 17 years, first as a community service officer and then as a sworn officer. He was diagnosed with cancer last year. Full story.

Mundelein files for injunction to stop truck terminal operations

Mundelein has filed for an injunction in an effort to stop Saia Freight from operating its truck terminal until the case is tried later this year in Lake County. In September, Grayslake approved the $14 million facility for Saia Motor Freight Line along the border with Mundelein over the objections of many neighboring residents. Full story.

Panarin's hat trick leads Hawks over Rangers

Artemi Panarin scored on the power play with three minutes remaining and the Blackhawks beat the New York Rangers 5-3 at Madison Square Garden on Wednesday night. Panarin, who has 22 goals, became the ninth player in franchise history to reach the 20-goal mark in his first season with the team. Full story.
