Mundelein files for injunction to stop truck terminal operations in Grayslake

Mundelein has filed for an injunction in an effort to stop Saia Freight from operating its truck terminal until the case is tried later this year in Lake County.

In September, Grayslake approved the $14 million facility for Saia Motor Freight Line along the border with Mundelein over the objections of many neighboring residents.

Construction is already underway, but on Tuesday, Mundelein filed paperwork to try to halt work on the site "due to increase activity at the Saia Freight truck terminal and the belief that Saia Freight is close to starting operations from this facility."

The village also filed an emergency motion to schedule an evidentiary hearing in the dipute, according to a news release.

Saia and the village of Grayslake will have to respond to Mundelein's motions by Tuesday, and both sides will be in court for a hearing on Feb. 29.

A trial date for the ultimate resolution of the SAIA Freight case has not yet been determined.

Concerns from village officials and residents include the dangers and noise of abundant truck traffic, the safety of people using an adjoining bike path, and health impacts from diesel emissions.

Saia representatives could not be reached for comment.
