Streamwood woman accused of stealing from Bloomingdale bank customer

A Streamwood woman working in a Citibank branch in Bloomingdale has been charged with stealing more than $12,000 from a customer, the DuPage County state's attorney's office said.

Gladys Alcala, 34, was charged with aggravated identity theft and two counts of theft after stealing $12,900 from a 66-year-old customer, the state's attorney's office said in a release.

In September 2014, Alcala persuaded the man, who did not speak English, to cancel a credit card account and open a new line of credit at the bank, prosecutors said. Alcala did not close the man's previous account and used his old credit card to make purchases from it, prosecutors said.

She was released from jail after posting the required 10 percent of her $12,000 bail. She is due back in court Feb. 1.
