Police: McHenry man stabbed acquaintance in leg during drunken argument

An intoxicated 19-year-old McHenry man stabbed a 21-year-old man during an argument at a mutual friend's home near Spring Grove early Wednesday morning, authorities said.

According to a news release issued by the Lake County sheriff's office, the victim was rushed to Centegra Northern Illinois Medical Center in McHenry, with nonlife-threatening injuries.

Detective Christopher Covelli said police believe that both men had been drinking when the argument began around 4:15 a.m. at a home on the 38100 block of North Harold Place in an unincorporated area near Spring Grove. Alexander P. Campos pulled out a knife and stabbed the victim in the leg, authorities said.

Campos then left the scene and walked home, according to the news release. About an hour after the stabbing, McHenry County sheriff's officers found Campos at his home on the 500 block of Sunrise Drive in McHenry and took him into custody without incident.

Campos was charged with felony aggravated battery and is currently in Lake County jail. His bond hearing is scheduled for Thursday morning.

Covelli said the victim was treated and released from the hospital Wednesday afternoon.
