Gas Technology Institute in Des Plaines gets $4.6 million grant

The U.S. Department of Energy is providing $4,636,089 in federal grant funding to Des Plaines-based Gas Technology Institute. The funding to help Gas Technology Institute develop innovative energy efficient technologies comes from the Advanced Research Projects Agency-Energy OPEN 2015 Program and from the Supercritical Transformational Electric Power program.

"This funding will help innovators in the Eight District develop new technologies to help grow well-paying local jobs, protect our planet and reduce our dependence on foreign oil," U.S. Rep. Tammy Duckworth said in a news release announcing the grant.

Gas Technology Institute is a nonprofit research and development institution that helps to bring new energy technologies to market. The institution reported income of $56.5 million in 2014. Their programs have resulted in nearly 500 products, 750 licenses and more than 1,300 associated patents.
