Kenneth Young Center open house in Mount Prospect

Open house and ribbon-cutting for Kenneth Young Center's Mount Prospect location will be from 5-7 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 18, at 1585 Dempster St. Located at the ground level of Myers' Place, the open house will feature expanded clinical offices, the community support team, extended child and adolescent services and a drop-in center.

The Mount Prospect location further advances KYC's mission of helping people feel good, do better and find solutions.

Due to continued growth at KYC's Elk Grove Village and Schaumburg locations and an increase in new clients, it was clear an expansion was necessary. This 7,000-square-foot space is home to several new components such as the Community Support Team (CST), clinical offices for Screening Assessment and Support and the Kenneth Young Drop-in Center; all of which revolve around recovery and support.

The Community Support Team is designed to meet the educational, vocational, residential, mental health, co-occurring disorders, financial, social, and other treatment needs of adults diagnosed with chronic mental illness. Interventions are provided primarily in natural community settings. For example, some of CST's tasks include grocery shopping with clients, weekly check-in, trips to the pharmacy and managing finances.

SASS provides community-based Screenings, Assessments, and Supportive Services to maintain children and adolescents with severe emotional disturbance in the least restrictive setting. For most, that means providing an array of support and wraparound services that enable them to remain in their home and community.

Another facet of this location is the Kenneth Young Drop-in Center where individuals who have experienced a mental illness create and operate an environment of support, socialization, self-direction, and empowerment. The overarching purpose of the Kenneth Young Drop-In Center is to empower individuals to set goals and take ownership of their own recovery through a community that promotes personal growth, empowerment, responsibility, and greater independence. The groups and activities offered incorporate messages of wellness, discovery, and recovery. The Kenneth Young Drop in Center is open seven days a week/364 days a year.

The Mount Prospect location will open its doors to the public at 5 p.m. with tours of the space and light refreshments. Following at 6 p.m. will be a ribbon cutting and a short program with words from the CEO and President Susan Cowen and KYC staff members.
