Get past mindset of 1700s on guns

I read a post in your Letter to the Editor section on Nov. 1 where the writer was comparing deaths related to automobile accidents to deaths committed in gun shootings. The writer stated to those opposed to gun ownership that we should also ban autos from being sold because of how many deaths occur in auto accidents.

I found it very ironic that the previous page in the newspaper had an unfortunate story about three people killed in Colorado Springs by a gunman walking down the sidewalk with a shotgun shooting at people. The difference between this and a car accident death is the word "accident." The person who had access to the shotgun intended to commit this heinous act where a person who dies in an auto accident is unintentional.

Let's get past this mindset of the 1700s that everyone should be armed and start avoiding these terrorist acts caused by guns.
