Lake County shooting victim charged in Round Lake Beach fight

A Waukegan man who went to a Grayslake medical center late Saturday for treatment of a gunshot wound is now facing a felony charge alleging he struck a man in the head with an object during an earlier altercation, officials said.

Omar Macias, 21, is charged with aggravated battery in connection with a fight in a housing complex in the 1900 block of Cedar Lake Road in Round Lake Beach, according to police.

Officers were called to the complex just after 9:30 p.m. Saturday for reports of gunshots. Though no gunshot victims were found when officers arrived, a 23-year-old Round Lake Beach man who had been struck in the head by a "blunt object" was at the scene, officials said. The man refused to be taken to the hospital for medical treatment.

Macias later arrived at the Northwestern Lake Forest Hospital's campus in Grayslake for a gunshot wound in his shoulder, police said. He was taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville for further treatment, then released to authorities. He's now being held in the Lake County jail on $150,000 bail.

Police said an investigation into who shot Macias is ongoing.
