MCC to hold Green Living Expo Nov. 7

Want some ideas on living green?

Discover how to create a more energy-efficient household and make your daily routine more earth-friendly at McHenry County College's eighth annual Green Living Expo on Saturday, Nov. 7.

The expo will run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the gym/multi-purpose room and Parking Lot B of the college at 8900 Route 14 in Crystal Lake.

More than 70 local green businesses and organizations will help visitors explore eco-friendly ideas. Participants can talk to renewable energy installers about the current market, get green financial advice, learn where to get healthy food locally, and find green gift ideas for holiday shopping. Area residents also can see an interactive exhibit of the Smart Grid and learn why it's important to McHenry County.

Outdoor highlights include a display of electric vehicles/bicycles, fly casting and snowshoeing demos, electric bicycles and battery recycling collection. Anyone interested in the Tiny House movement can explore a model tiny home and talk with a builder. Four colleges will showcase their green efforts, including the alternative fuel truck built by MCC students.

The event also will feature rain barrels, vermicomposting, pet-friendly items, and natural skin care vendors.

The expo is free and open to the public. Dukes Ale House and Kitchen will be selling lunch items and Garden to Glass Juicery will offer fresh fruit and vegetable smoothies made to order.
